THE THING THAT CAME FROM OVER THERE!
In this era of alternative facts, the deliciously mad Gonzo Moose theatre company this time have decided to do the alternative facts of the 1912 Antarctic expedition of Captain Scott. An idea you may have seen done before; but not like this. The show combines clowning, physical theatre, extensive use of idiotic props and mind-boggling Heath Robinson set devices, with digs at conspiracy theorists, images from ‘50s sci-fi B movies, and total departure from rationality. The depth and breadth of comic invention at work here staggers the imagination. These three energetic and supremely talented performers flip from character to character effortlessly, and every character (I lost count how many) in the alternative Captain Scottt’s team is hysterically funny in a different and even more lunatic way. And yes, that is Scottt, with three t’s. Very important. This is the Gonzos at the top of their game: not a moment is wasted, gags visual and verbal are non-stop and there is no top that they do not know how to go over in the successful pursuit of laughs. It is a wonderful thing to have a company like this in the world to take live comic theatre to new and unimagined heights. This is the upside of alternative facts. A total delight.
