Can You See Me? Thursday 8 – Sunday 11 September
The egg begins its packed Autumn Season next month with a home-grown show, featuring an enchanting and mischievous performance of hide and seek!
Can You See Me? is a delightful short play for older pre-school and Early Years children, directed and devised by Lucy Cassidy in which two children and an adult dancer play games in the woods, exploring the magic that comes from child’s play.
Lucy Cassidy will be familiar to Bath audiences from her work with Bristol-based performers The Special Guests, and her previous work with the egg as a leading artist on the Schools Without Walls project.
The woodland set for Can You See Me? has been designed by acclaimed Bath-based artist Edwina Bridgeman, with an original score composed by Timothy X Atack, who has previously worked at the Lyric Hammersmith, Tobacco Factory Theatre, Bristol Old Vic and at Bristol University, teaching Sound Design in Theatre.
The children performing in Can You See Me? in Bath have been specifically chosen from local schools as ‘non-stage school’ children – director Lucy Cassidy especially wanted children who were able to immerse themselves into the ‘play’ aspect of the performance, rather than to be playing to the audience, as this was essential to the magic of children’s play which is integral to the performance. The children in Bath have come from St. Andrew’s and St. Stephen’s Primary Schools.
The show was first produced last year as part of the egg’s Incubator project, which works with world-class writers and devisers to create new theatre for young audiences. Originally titled The Brave and the Bold, this short performance was selected from last year’s Incubator Showcase to be performed at the On The Edge Festival in Birmingham, and now returns to Bath with plans for a national tour.
Can You See Me? is at the egg theatre from Thursday 8 – Sunday 11 September. Tickets are on sale now from the Box Office on 01225 448844 or online at www.theatreroyal.org.uk
