Flo Fields, from the UK tour of ‘Annie Get Your Gun’ starring Jason Donovan treated children from the prestigious Bath Theatre School to a morning of action packed dancing, singing and acting lessons.
Flo, who is originally from Bath, trained in Musical Theatre at Arts Educational School in London which has trained many stars of stage and screen such as Martin Clunes, Julie Andrews, Will Young and Hugo Speer. Flo was also recently nominated for the Spotlight Prize 2013 alongside other musical theatre graduates.
During the master class, Flo coached students about vocal, dance and acting technique, taught a routine to the iconic tune ‘There’s no business like show business’ and held a question and answer session so that children could find out more about ‘Annie Get Your Gun’ and Flo’s knowledge of the world of performing.
Bath Theatre School’s Principal, Tom Bright, said “We were very pleased that Flo found time in her busy schedule to come and share her wealth of experience from the theatre with our students. We always enjoy having guest performers for master classes which offer all our children unique, educational and memorable experiences”.
Master classes are just one of the many opportunities available to Bath Theatre School students, which prides its self in offering the most comprehensive and unique Musical Theatre experience for children aged 7-18 in Bath and surrounding areas. Bath Theatre School are particularly unique by offering all children the opportunity to take Trinity examinations in Musical Theatre. These nationally recognised qualifications not only build a foundation for a career in the performing, but the syllabus is purposely designed to nurture and develop key life skills which are relevant to all children, in areas such as team work, communication, public speaking and co-ordination. Lessons are equally distributed between dancing, singing and acting so that children can learn all aspects of musical theatre to ensure they become all round performers.
In addition, the School runs theatre trips for children to see firsthand what performing in a large-scale professional theatre is like. But most importantly Bath Theatre School provides a fun, friendly and safe CRB/DBS checked learning environment in which children can socialise, build confidence and make friends.
Bath Theatre School will very shortly be starting rehearsals for their professionally staged musical, ‘Joseph and his Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat’, which is packed full of fun, well known songs. The production will give students the chance to wear costumes, use makeup and perform in a 400 seat theatre to family, friends and the general public. Plus there is still time to get involved with this great opportunity.
The School runs on Saturday mornings and afternoons from 9.30am until 12.30pm, then 1.30pm until 4.30pm at Beechen Cliff School in Bath. Any children that are interested in joining can enjoy a free 3 hour taster session to try it for themselves and meet their friendly team.
