Strong opinions about performance? Practice is a chance for artists and audiences to see and test innovative contemporary performance and dance, then discuss how it could be developed. Four selected extracts of work-in-progress by solo performers and companies will be showcased for discussion with the audience.  Many of these acts go on to develop full-length pieces which will be performed at ICIA and Salisbury Arts Centre.  Come along and say ‘I was there’ when it goes live!

Ruth Maclennan’s exhibition is a constellation of evocative images and encounters drawn from the artist’s journeys in Crimea and Odessa.  Using film, photography and sound, the works excavate and expose the remnants of a political experiment.

Richard Deacon, a leading figure in British sculpture and former winner of the Turner Prize, will talk about his work and influences over the past thirty years. Known for his imaginative and sometimes unexpected use of materials, his uncanny way of seeing an object in space often raises more questions than it answers.

As part of the BIG DRAW festival, ICIA presents a drawing and puppet-making workshop that explores images of portable homes, focusing on reconstructing memories of our own homes and how they become part of oneself. The workshop will include creative writing and drawing activities, readings of philosophical texts, poetry, group discussion, and will culminate in a site-specific drawing installation.

This workshop will investigate how to use Live art in the public environment to create artwork. By making observations and then responding to these by carrying out creative interventions, course participants will work with the body and found objects to produce engaging and thoughtful performances.
