A&M interview Susan BoyleIt’s been a busy few months for BBC and ITV award winning comedian Jon Monie; Last June the popular Bathonian reunited with his comedy double act partner Graham Avent for a sell-out run of live stage shows at the Ustinov Studio raising money  for local charities and receiving critical acclaim from the public and press alike. In August Jon and Graham compered the opening ceremony for the Special Olympics in the Royal Crescent, keeping the audience of 8,000 entertained with witty banter between performances and interviewing the likes of Susan Boyle, Colin Salmon and Lawrie McMenemy. Most recently Jon performed in the box office record breaking Pantomime Peter Pan at the Theatre Royal which starred in as Smee.

But, not one to rest on his laurels, he’s now back with another show that he and Graham are taking to the Edinburgh Festival*.  In preparation for the run and to raise much need funds (most Edinburgh shows lose £10,000) Avent and Monie are touring their show at a range of venues across the South West**. The premiere is at the Wroughton Theatre, King Edwards School on the 14th and 15th March.

Avent & Monie Headshot“It’s nerve racking to be taking on the biggest comedy festival in the world at the age of 41 but we both had a ‘now or never moment’ and decided to take the plunge”, explains Jon, “We went up to the festival last year to scout some venues and see what worked and we’ve come up with what will hopefully be a very entertaining show. The feedback from our last show was brilliant with people telling us we had to take it further, but we knew the show wasn’t polished enough – it needed a narrative running throughout which is what we’ve now introduced”

“Avent and Monie – Back to Front, follows the exploits of a double-act both in-front of and behind the curtain”, explains Graham, “As the performance gathers steam, the performers let more off; hard truths are told and wise cracks begin to appear. Throughout the show the audience meet a range of outrageous comic characters, whilst also bearing witness to the bickering shenanigans and possible disintegration of their creators. Will the show end with a punch line or punch up? You’ll have to come and see it to find out!”

Avent and Monie Back to Front is at the Wroughton Theatre, King Edwards School Bath, on the 14th and 15th March.
