“Remarkable” – Sunday Express
BalletBoyz theTALENT 2015 visits the Theatre Royal Bath with a company of ten exceptional young male dancers to present an exhilarating evening of spectacular dance, both energetic and graceful.
BalletBoyz is one of the most original and innovative forces in modern dance and the brainchild of former Royal Ballet lead dancers, Michael Nunn and William Trevitt. They have been dancing together for nearly 25 years and thrilled audiences and dance critics the world over with their mix of award-winning repertoire, distinctive performance style and high artistic standards.
Choreographer Alexander Whitley, New Wave Associate Artist at Sadler’s Wells, chose the subject and title of The Murmuring for his new work. As well as a low, distinctive and continuous sound, murmurings is also the extraordinary undulating flight pattern of flocks of birds, particularly starlings.
Alexander Whitley, said: “I’m delighted The Murmuring is going out on the road and that I’ve had another opportunity to work with the BalletBoyz after having enjoyed so much working with them making the piece.”
BalletBoyz William Trevitt commented, “The Murmuring is a really interesting piece with a very well crafted, meticulous and moving structure to it; abstract, yet not.”
Mesmerics was originally created by Nunn and Trevitt with Christopher Wheeldon, Artistic Associate of The Royal Ballet, in 2004 for three male and two female dancers. Christopher has re-worked the piece and re-created it for eight of theTALENT’s dancers. “We’ve always loved the piece,” says Michael Nunn. “The music is a gorgeous score by Philip Glass. We knew it wouldn’t work in the old format because there’s a lot of pointe work and traditional partnering, so Chris has re-invented it and we’ve worked with him in tiny moments through his busy schedule.” The costumes have been re-designed by Amanda Barrow and William Trevitt.
For theTalent 2015, award-winning Artistic Directors Nunn and Trevitt handpicked two new dancers from across the UK to join their existing company through open auditions. Selected from different dance backgrounds, all of the first-rate dancers demonstrate a passion for dance and natural unharnessed talent.
The ten dancers performing in theTALENT 2015 are Andrea Carrucciu, Simone Donati, Flavien Esmieu, Marc Galvez, Adam Kirkham, Harry Price, Edward Pearce (who hails from Somerset), Matthew Rees, Matthew Sandiford and Bradley Waller. A life-changing opportunity for many of these young men, this exciting venture has seen Nunn and Trevitt mentoring and coaching the talented dancers, giving them an invaluable professional development opportunity at an early stage in their careers.
Michael Nunn and William Trevitt have been hailed as pioneers for making dance accessible and reaching a wider audience through their celebrated stage and television work. They met at the Royal Ballet School in the late 1980s and went on to dance for 12 years as leading dancers with the Royal Ballet, forming a lasting friendship that has taken them through a series of highly successful creative ventures.
