This week the students at Bath Academy of Musical Theatre were treated to an inspiring performance masterclass with award winning actor Rosalie Craig.

Rosalie has performed in many Broadway and West End musicals and plays including City of Angels, As You Like It, Ragtime, Company and London Road. She was nominated for an Oliver Award and won an Evening Standard Award for her role in The Light Princess at the National Theatre in 2013.

The BAMT students were given the opportunity to perform a musical theatre song and work with Rosalie on their performances in front of their fellow students. Rosalie was very impressed with the quality of the performances by the students at Bath Academy of Musical Theatre and how they positively responded to her help and ideas.

The evening also included a Q&A session – during which Rosalie gave the students tips and advice for preparing to go to drama school and on life as a professional actor.

Head of Music Tim King said:

‘The students really feel the benefits from working with such inspiring mentors and learnt a great deal this evening. With so many people applying to top drama schools, we have to provide our students at BAMT with the best weekly one on one training, alongside masterclasses from external specialists, to give them the best chance of success.’

After the session, student Alice Graham said

‘It was an absolutely amazing masterclass with Rosalie. We are so lucky to be a part of BAMT and to be able to have opportunities like these’.

Founded by Rob Hickmore and Tim King, Bath Academy of Musical Theatre is now in its fifth year offering the best musical theatre training in the Bath area. The course focusses on audition preparation and is a must for anyone wishing to gain entry to full time drama school and musical theatre courses.

Due to Rob and Tim’s connections with the West End and top drama schools, students at Bath Academy of Musical Theatre are regularly treated to masterclasses with highly experience performers and directors, such as Kerry Ellis (Wicked, We Will Rock You, Oliver, Cats & Les Miserables), Oliver Tompsett (We Will Rock You, Rock Of Ages & Wicked), Helena Blackman (The Sound Of Music, Seven Brides for Seven Brother), Mary Hammond (Royal Academy of Music), George Stiles (Honk, Mary Poppins and Peter Pan), Neil Ditt (Chicago, Mary Poppins, Betty Blue Eyes and High Society) and Helen Colby (Sweeney Todd, Sister Act).

The staff at BAMT are all top performing arts tutors from the musical theatre world – each with great experience of professional performance and teaching at drama schools. Their previous students have gained places at institutions including Central School of Speech & Drama, Royal Academy of Music, Guildford School of Acting, Italia Conti, Mountview, Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama, Bristol Old Vic and LIPA.

Bath Academy of Musical Theatre will be offering a Free Taster Session on Monday 11th April to any student interested in attending the course. The evening will include practical workshops in singing, dance and acting – and is an ideal opportunity to meet the staff. This event will shortly be followed by the first set of auditions for entry in September 2016.
