ROUGHHOUSE THEATRE PRESS RELEASE
By popular demand, Bristol stalwarts Roughhouse Theatre are reviving Shane Morgan’s stage adaptation of the Nick Hornby
short story, NippleJesus…
NICK HORNBY’S NIPPLEJESUS
ADAPTED FOR THE STAGE BY SHANE MORGAN
PRODUCED BY ROUGHHOUSE THEATRE
“I never thought for a moment I’d be on some sort of special mission…”
Dave used to be a bouncer. He wanted a better life and Contemporary Art became his new calling. Taking a proper 9-5 in a gallery meant he could spend more time with his family. What he didn’t realise is that he would take a starring role in a game with no rules, a dangerous crush and whole bunch of oddballs.
Writer Nick Hornby (High Fidelity, Fever Pitch, Long Way Down) has created his very own Everyman as Dave has to deal with his fair share of admirers, naysayers, nutters and vicars.
An honest, funny and totally biased tale of contemporary art, religion and the true definition of pornography.
First published in 2000, NippleJesus was taken from the Hornby edited Speaking With The Angel, a collection of short stories by contemporary writers and was adapted for the stage by Shane Morgan. NippleJesus premiered at the Sydney Fringe Festival in 2001.
WHAT OTHERS HAVE SAID:
“Storming one man production…laced with testosterone” BRISTOL POST
“Perfect…funny and clever” DRUM MEDIA, SYDNEY
“An attack on popular culture…well worth a look” SUN HERALD, SYDNEY
A preview of Nipplejesus will be staged at the Rondo Theatre Bath on Friday 2nd May 2014 at 8pm. The show lasts for 50 mins and is suitable for ages 15+.
