Theatre students aged 7-16 from Bath Theatre School were recently put through their paces with nationally recognised qualifications in Musical Theatre from Trinity College London. Having trained for several months, students had to demonstrate their versatility across a diverse range of singing, dancing, acting and improvisation skills, along with discussions on characterisation and material analysis with an external examiner. Bath Theatre School is renowned for being the only school in the area to offer such qualifications as part of its standard teaching.
The Principal of Bath Theatre School, Tom Bright, said “We are exceptionally proud of our students for achieving such brilliant results. Whilst our talented staff have worked hard to prepare the students for these exams, we have all been overwhelmed by the commitment, hard work and progress shown by all our students, which has enabled them to secure such fantastic results. Having set up Bath Theatre School within the last 12 months to offer the most unique performing experience in the area, we are thrilled to leave students with lasting and nationally recognised qualifications. Whilst supporting a future in performing, the exams are purposely designed to develop and nurture key life skills in areas such as team work, communication, creativity, making friends, public speaking, confidence building and co-ordination, making the exams relevant to all children and everyday life.”
Bath Theatre School will shortly be starting rehearsals for their annual production, which this year will be Honk!, which won the Olivier Best Musical award in 2000. This musical comedy is based on the classic rites of passage tale of the ‘Ugly Duckling’ story and will be staged at Kingswood Theatre, Bath, 19-20th July. Rehearsals start on the 13th of April and any children are welcome to join Bath Theatre School to have the chance to perform in this lively musical.
