The Blues Brothers… Approved brings the classic hits and capers of Jake and Elwood Blues to life live on stage at the Theatre Royal Bath from Monday 13th May to Saturday 18th May featuring cast members from the official tribute show’s previous West End runs.
Direct from a residency in Chicago and a national tour of the USA, The Blues Brothers… Approved is back in the UK and will be raising the roof at the Theatre Royal Bath, armed with new twists, new moves, a new set and freshly laundered suits as lead vocalist Jake Blues (performed by Brad Henshaw) and harmonica-playing singer Elwood Blues (performed by Chris Chandler) return on a mission to bring ‘Soul and Blues’ into the lives of anyone with a heartbeat. Joining Jake and Elwood on stage are three sensational female singers, the fabulous ‘Bluettes’, and an incredible Blues Brothers band.
The show features all of The Blues Brothers classics including Everybody, Gimme Some Lovin, Think, Shake a Tailfeather, Sweet Home Chicago, as well as some new songs and many more best-loved soul, rhythm and blues tracks.
The Blues Brothers phenomenon first came to public attention on television in 1976 and 1978 on the American cult variety show Saturday Night Live when comedy actors Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi created the roles of ‘Joliet’ Jake E. Blues and Elwood J. Blues in musical sketches. An American blues and soul revivalist band, The Blues Brothers merged the electric Chicago Blues sound and the Memphis Stax Records R&B sound inspired by musicians such as Otis Redding and Issac Hayes. The original Blues Brothers band featured respected blues and soul musicians including Steve Cropper and Donald ‘Duck’ Dunn. After their television appearances, the band began to take on a life beyond the confines of the small screen releasing a hit single and a double platinum selling album Briefcase Full of Blues in 1978. Two years later the famous 1980 film The Blues Brothers starred Aykroyd and Belushi as Jake and Elwood Blues directed by John Landis, and featured some remarkable cameo performances from legendary performers James Brown, Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles and John Lee Hooker. After the death of John Belushi in 1982, The Blues Brothers band continued to perform with a rotation of guest singers and other band members. The band reformed in 1988 for a world tour and again in 1998 for Blues Brothers 2000, a sequel to the original film.
The official tribute show visiting Bath is inspired by the cult film and approved by Dan Aykroyd and Judith Belushi. The Blues Brothers… Approved stage show celebrates the music, the characters and the spirit of the hit film combining all of the classic tracks in a high energy, fast-paced performance. It’s time to dust off your pork pie hats, dig out your shades, put on your dancing shoes and prepare to party as Jake and Elwood Blues take to the stage at the Theatre Royal Bath to perform the best songs, music and moves this side of Chicago.
