New Model Theatre Presents “Static” at the Rondo Theatre

Following their sellout premiere of April by Emily Holyoake and their 2013 tour of Static, New Model Theatre is delighted to present Static at the Rondo Theatre on Wednesday 19 March 2014. “I’ve seen everything that’s wrong with the world beamed through radio waves, microwaves and via satellite. No, when I die, there will be a screen. And on that screen will flash the collective consciousness of seven billion people. Just as it has every day of my life.” From watching the World Trade Centre fall live on TV, to the top of the Tory HQ via drunken teenage parties and stumbling home with broken noses, Static combines traditional storytelling with verbatim news reports to tell a coming of age story that spans a decade. This is the story of how a generation grew up with the world at their fingertips, howthey learnt to switch off their screens and got up on their feet. The Press on Static: “Beautifully executed, with a clever script and a sterling performance.” The Guardian “This is a show you won’t forget in a hurry, definitely dynamic, not static.” Wildfire Magazine “...the script­ by Tom Nicholas, who also directs ­captures the nervy confidence of nascent activism beautifully...New Model Theatre is a young company that already impresses.” Exeunt Magazine Tom Nicholas Tom Nicholas is a Playwright and Theatre Director based in Plymouth.  His first full length play, Static, toured to Exeter, Manchester, London and the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.  It was described in no uncertain terms by The Guardian as, "Beautifully executed, with a clever script and a sterling performance.".  As Artistic Director of New Model Theatre he curates BETA in The Lab, Theatre Royal Plymouth. He was commissioned by Paines Plough and Drum Theatre Plymouth to write a short play for their Come To Where I'm From series as well as writing and performing 'Common Sense' as part of The Bike Shed Theatre's Bare Bones New Blood Festival 2013.  Directing credits include Static (New Model Theatre, 2013); 24 Hour Plays (Rondo Theatre, 2013) and April (New Model Theatre, 2013).  Assistant Directing credits include The World at Your Feet (WIRED, 2012); The Devil is an Ass (Theatre Royal Plymouth People's Company, 2012) and New Blood/Bare Bones 2012 (Bike Shed Theatre, 2012).
