Christmas at Newton Park House
Thurs 15 – Sat 17 December
Thurs & Fri – 6:30pm & 8pm – Sat 2pm, 4pm, 6pm, 8pm
Visit Newton Park this Christmas! A unique and exciting opportunity to discover the story of a true gem of Georgian architectural beauty.
This immersive performance invites you to explore the grand rooms and hallways of Newton Park, seeing three centuries of turbulent history come to life before your eyes. From its inception in 1760, through two world wars, right up to its conversion into a nation-leading teacher training college in 1945, this atmospheric theatrical tour will have you tip-toeing from room to room, seeing and hearing the ghosts of the past first hand.
Join us this Christmas at Newton Park House for mulled wine, carols, and a fascinating glimpse into the lives of those who once inhabited this beautiful mansion set in its Capability Brown landscaped gardens.
SPECIFIQ, a theatre company that specialises in recreating true stories from history and bringing them to life in situ, has been commissioned to create this special event by the Writing and Performance production house OnSet.
Mark Langley, Head of Field: Writing and Performance, Bath Spa University says;
“As the Capability Brown Tricentenary comes to an end and as the University has recently celebrated the appointment of Jeremy Irons as its first Chancellor we were very aware of the history of the university. We also have a PhD student Kate James who has researched and written the history of the Newton Park site and the three things came into alignment. On top of which the story of the house is filled with brilliant events and some great stories. The chance to put this all together and to open up the campus to the city was irresistible.”
Tickets (including Mulled Wine & Mince Pies) are £14, (£12 Concessions) and available from www.bathspalive.com
