Core Theatre Productions continue to celebrate 10 years creating theatre with their next production – ‘Deathtrap’ by Ira Levin, which will be performed at the Rondo Theatre in July.

Written in 1978, this dark comedy is one of Broadway’s biggest hits, running for four years with almost 1800 performances. This suspense filled ‘Who’ll do it ‘, is so full of twists and turns that it will keep you guessing until the end.

Sidney Bruhl is a once successful play write who hasn’t had a ‘hit’ for a long time. He now finds himself in the middle of a sustained period of writer’s block, whilst supporting his lavish lifestyle with his wife’s fortune. When a student sends him a copy of the new play he has written, Sidney is sorely tempted to pass the work off as his own – it’s that good. With the added complication of interference by the neighbouring psychic and a suspicious wife, who knows what lengths Sidney is prepared to take to save his career?

Director Natalie Taylor, who previously directed Core’s February 2013 production of ‘An Inspector Calls’ (“This is an accomplished production… the nuances of the era are well captured” Theatre Bath), said “This is a truly exciting thriller with some brilliant unexpected twists”. Co-artistic Director, Sarah Larmour, had this to say “2014 is a really exciting year for us as we celebrate our first decade as a theatre company. At Core we really do believe that variety is the spice of life – we do our best to put on a range of productions from different genres and styles. Having already tried our hands at devised theatre this year, we were very happy when Natalie agreed to take the reins for the summer and bring Ira Levin’s wonderful, darkly funny ‘Deathtrap’ to the Rondo.”

Core Theatre Productions is a non-professional community theatre company based in Bath. We are proud of our continuing reputation for producing entertaining, quality theatre. Our members come from a variety of backgrounds, including professionals and experienced amateurs to those who have never stepped foot on stage but have always ‘wanted to give it a go’. “The excellent cast don’t miss a beat” Bath Chronicle on Dancing at Lughnasa, July 2013. We hold open auditions for all of our productions and cast based on the requirements of the production, so everyone has an equal chance at being cast, regardless of how long they have been a member with us or how much experience they have.

The Rondo Theatre in Larkhall, is one of the busiest and most atmospheric small theatres in England. According to the Itchy Guide to Bath, it is a theatre worth tracking down “If you like your theatre informal but still with quality productions. You get a feeling of belonging to a special club when you watch a play here as the… seating is only a few feet from the stage.”
