We are delighted to announce that J.B.Priestley’s ‘An Inspector Calls’ will be performed at the RONDO THEATRE by CORE THEATRE PRODUCTIONS from WEDNESDAY 6thFEBRUARY to SATURDAY 9th FEBRUARY 2013.
An Inspector Calls is one of Priestley’s best known works for the stage and is considered to be one of the classics of mid-20th century English theatre.
Focusing on the prosperous middle-class Birling family, who live in Brumley, the play is in three acts and takes place over the course of a single night. As the family sit down to a celebratory family dinner, they are visited by a man calling himself Inspector Goole. The Inspector questions the family about the suicide of a young working-class woman, Eva Smith (also known as Daisy Renton) and, as the family is interrogated, each is revealed to have known Eva (or Daisy) and to have been at least partially responsible for the young woman’s exploitation, abandonment and social ruin, effectively leading to her death. As the evening progresses, will any of the family accept their part in Eva’s downfall?
Director Natalie Taylor said ‘Having been given the opportunity to select our next production, I took some time going over which production I might like to direct, until I remembered how much I enjoyed An Inspector Calls when I studied it at school. I love this tale of family secrets, intrigue and lessons of social and personal responsibility. So thank you to all our supporters, enjoy the show!’
