After a sell out run of their first original show WE.ARE.YOUNG, DollyPop are back again and they’ve got a lot to stay about ladies who take their clothes of for a living.
STRIP is a new Verbatim play about Burlesque dancers and Strippers. Women across America and the UK were interviewed for the project and the results were sometimes surprising, often emotional and completely
captivating. Four of these interviews were chosen and nothing has been changed. Set to a backdrop of fast paced footage, STRIP breaks down boundaries, preconceptions and opinions to reveal the truth behind the women that take their clothes off for a living.
Co-Directors Jade Berks and Louise Marie Bowen have been asking themselves alot of questions while working on the piece.
‘The subject makes us talk’ says Jade, ‘It makes you question everything you thought about strippers. It made me think about how and why I formulate opinions. I’ve spoken to a lot of women while researching this project and have found that people have very strong opinions and a lot of the time they’ve never met a stripper, let alone sat down and spoken them to them for hours as I have.’
Louise says
‘I’m a great believer of verbatim theatre, I think it’s a great form of theatre to explore subject areas that need to be addressed and to pose questions to people, to get them think.  And this is exactly what we want to do, we don’t want to inflict any opinions upon our audience but we do want our audience to rethink this world of ‘stripping’ & ‘burlesque’.
Jade and I have created a safe environment for everyone involved in this project to explore the area, we have questioned our own thoughts and listened to others throughout this rehearsal process and we all want to do one thing –  share the stories of strippers and burlesque dancers and show the world their story.
