Female Transport- Ustinov Studio- Theatre Bath

This stark, hard hitting drama is an account of six women convicted of petty crimes in 1807 and sentenced to a life of hard labour in Britain’s overseas penal colony, Australia, based on true accounts from slave ships of the time.

During the six month voyage they are kept in a cramped cell below deck where they learn certain truths about society at the hands of their brutal jailer, while bonding with each other and some finding solace with other more sympathetic members of the crew. But can anyone’s intentions be trusted in such a tempestuous and class-obsessed system, barely different from the 19th century London they left behind…?
