Bath audiences will be the first to see a brand-new play by local playwright Pippa Thornton; Real Life, which premieres this November at the Rondo Theatre in Larkhall, is a comical coming-of-age tale that sheds a light on the millennial generation’s fascination with social-media.

With the use of social-media becoming an ever more integral part of our daily lives, a new type of celebrity has been born: the Social-Media Influencer. These new celebrities are bloggers who have amassed giant followings on platforms such as Twitter, Facebook or Instagram. With more and more bloggers making it their full-time job, our social feeds are being populated by these so-called influencers who make a living from uploading a daily slice of their lives.

“I wanted to look at how we perceive these social-media celebrities: it’s so easy to compare your life to what you see on Facebook or Instagram and think… why isn’t my life like that? But nobody’s life is perfect, and you’d never put the details of your worst day online.” Pippa Thornton, playwright.

Real Life is the story of Hannah, a recent graduate and call centre worker who longs for some excitement and adventure. When the reappearance of an old friend shows her how glamorous her life could be, Hannah decides to make a drastic change… but the road to success is not as smooth as she thinks!

Presented by Flipside Theatre in association with the Rondo Theatre, Real Life stars three up-and-coming local actors: Charlotte Hobbs, Alexandra Ricou and Bethany Heath.
