This Thursday, Show of Strength Theatre Company will bring its nightly theatrical walks to the streets of Bath, following in the footsteps of Mary Shelley as she wrote the iconic Frankenstein, opening on what is forecast to be a thundery night reminiscent of the one which inspired the book 200 years ago.
Running from 16th June to 30th September, the walk will be led by professional actors with stories of the writer’s turbulent time in the city.
Revealing the events and scandal underlying the creation of Frankenstein, the tour will take visitors on an adventure, retracing Mary Shelley’s footsteps and exploring the extraordinary and unmarked locations where she wrote her story, including her mystery address.
Running every night from the 16th June to the 30th September, brave explorers will delve into a series of real life disasters that unfolded during Mary’s time in the city. Starting at Rebecca’s Fountain by the side of Bath Abbey, the one mile accessible route will reveal the true inspiration behind the story of Frankenstein; including the reason Mary Shelley came to Bath, family suicides, and the secrets Mary and her companions were desperate to hide.
The tour starts each night at 7.30pm and lasts approximately 75 minutes.
All tickets £8 and can be purchased on the day at the start of the tour (cash only).
Private tours can be organised separately. The experience is not recommended for under 12s.
