Based on the book by Michael Rosen
Wednesday 16th – Sunday 20th September
Little Angel Theatre returns to the egg with Michael Rosen’s thrilling and funny family adventure, brought to life with entrancing puppetry and music.
One of the best loved children’s books of recent years, We’re Going on a Bear Hunt follows a family on an adventure of a lifetime – running down the grassy bank, wading through the cold river, squelching over the oozy mud, stumbling into the dark forest, then peering into a cave … what will they find??
Little Angel Theatre is widely regarded as ‘The Home of British Puppetry’ and has, for more than 50 years, been producing high quality puppet theatre productions for children and families. Former Children’s Laureate Michael Rosen’s poem about hunting a bear is based on a traditional campfire song. He was spotted performing it in the 1980s by an editor from Walker Books, who was convinced that it would make a great picture book. He teamed up with illustrator Helen Oxenbury, who added the characters of the children and their dog, creating the winning formula which has made We’re Going On A Bear Hunt a children’s classic.
This new stage version of …Bear Hunt has been co-adapted by Barb Jungr, the jazz and blues singer renowned for her reworkings of songs by Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen. Her previous work for the stage includes the Birmingham Stage Company’s highly acclaimed tour of The Jungle Book, and The Ballad of Noah’s Ark.
We’re Going on a Bear Hunt is at the egg theatre from Wednesday 16th – Sunday 20th September. Performance times are Wednesday & Thursday at 10am & 1pm; Friday & Saturday at 10am, 12pm & 3pm; and Sunday at 11am & 2pm.
