TRB TheatreSchool Summer Company presents THE HOUND OF THE BASKERVILLES
Thursday 25 – Sunday 28 August
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s famous detective and the eerie Devonshire moors of one of his best-loved novels will be brought to life at the egg theatre next week in the public performances of this year’s summer school.
Legend and superstition collide with the most logical and rational brain of our time, when Sir Charles Baskerville is found dead with the footprints of a giant hound nearby and speculation points to the family curse… Join the world’s greatest detective, Sherlock Holmes as he and his trusted ally Dr Watson unravel their most terrifying case yet!
The Hound of the Baskervilles has been adapted especially for this young company by sixteen year-old Milo Morris, a current member of the TRB TheatreSchool, and a ‘veteran’ of six previous TRB Summer Schools. Milo has been mentored by professional playwright Tom Wainwright, whose work has been produced by Bristol Old Vic, Paines Plough and Theatre Royal Bath.
The Summer Company follows in the footsteps of the Theatre Royal’s hugely popular Storm on the Lawn project which has offered professional training to young performers and budding technicians during the summer holidays for almost 20 years. Since the beginning of August, the egg has been a hive of activity with the company of 28 performers and 10 backstage apprentices, all aged between 12 and 18, working alongside professional directors and designers to rehearse the show, make costumes, prepare the set and learn about all aspects of professional theatre.
In a nod to the illustrious history of the previous summer school project, the entire egg auditorium will be laid with turf, recreating the desolate Devonshire moors in the intimate surroundings of the egg and enabling the audience to picnic on the grass before the performances! Unlike the previous summer schools, this one will not be subject to the vagaries of the British weather….
The Hound of the Baskervilles will take place at the egg from Thursday 25th – Sunday 28thAugust.
