Merriman Productions present
Rondo Theatre, Bath
Wednesday 10 – Saturday 13 May

Midsomer Norton-based Merriman Productions return to the Rondo Theatre next week after the sell-out success of Acorn Antiques with this hilarious musical comedy – The Drowsy Chaperone, the Tony Award-winning affectionate parody of the great American musicals of the 1920s.

When a die-hard theatre fan plays his favourite cast album, the characters literally come to life in his bedsit. The stage is set for hilarious musical farce, with two lovers on the even of their wedding, a bumbling best man, a theatre producer desperate to foil the wedding plans and return the bride to his show, a not-so-bright hostess, two gangsters posing as pastry chefs, a misguided Don Juan and an intoxicated chaperone – all the ingredients for an evening of madcap delight!!

The Drowsy Chaperone won the Tony Award s for Best Musical Score with its nods towards the classic 1920s musicals of Cole Porter, Irving Berlin and George Gershwin, and transferred to the West End in 2007, where it starred Elaine Paige as the eponymous Chaperone.

Merriman Productions past successes have included musical comedies Acorn Antiques and Lucky Stiff at the Rondo Theatre, and last year produced the amateur premiere of Richard Bean’s One Man Two Guvnors. The company is made up of past members of the NODA Award-winning youth company Merriman Theatre Group, and guest performers from some of the regions top amateur companies including Bath Light Opera Group and Bristol’s BLOC Productions and Bristol Amateur Operatic Society.

THE DROWSY CHAPERONE is at The Rondo Theatre from Wednesday 10th – Saturday 13th May. Tickets are on sale now from
