Midsomer Theatre Company was formed last year by Director Petra Schofield after she was commissioned to write a piece for the company as part of the RSC Openstages programme.  Petra, who is the founder of Magic Penny Productions has a strong interest in local history having worked with other rural communities including Peasedown St John devising a full scale production to celebrate the centenary of the local primary school.  On this occasion the brief was to create a Shakespeare related piece with a company of 20 ranging from 7 – 35 yrs. The result is A Midsomer Knight’s Dream, loosely based on the bard but also including references to the town’s medieval knight effigy who rests in St John’s Church.

“This is a great opportunity for a community theatre project,” Petra says; “the town does not have a current theatre company and so it has taken time to get to this point, the young people have worked so hard and most importantly, had a great time taking part and making new friends.”

The one act play runs over the Midsummer weekend 21/ 22nd June at The Midsomer Norton Town Hall, which will transformed into a forest.
