BAFTA winner and Olivier Award nominee GINA McKEE will play the mother in Florian Zeller’s play of the same name, at the Ustinov Studio from 21st May – 20th June.
Gina McKee’s breakthrough role came in the iconic television drama Our Friends in the North, which earned her three Best Actress awards, and she starred in the hit British film Notting Hill alongside Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant. Her extensive career has taken in stage and screen with an Olivier Award nomination for her role in the Donmar Warehouse production ofKing Lear opposite Sir Derek Jacobi, further BAFTA nominations for Jimmy McGovern’s The Street on TV, and film appearances including Atonement and In The Loop.
Produced as part of the Ustinov’s World Theatre Season, and directed by Laurence Boswell, The Mother is by French playwright Florian Zeller, and explores the psychology of a woman praying for her favoured grown-up son to return home. Last year, the Ustinov’s production of Zeller’s latest play, The Father, starring Kenneth Cranham, received outstanding national acclaim, leading to a London transfer and tour. The Father returns to the Theatre Royal’s Main Stage for a week-long run in June.
