Front of House staff at the Theatre Royal Bath, aged 18 to 80 years, have cast aside their uniforms and bravely posed in the nude creating a ‘tongue in cheek’ 2016 Calendar to raise money for the Theatre Royal Fundraisers and Cancer Research UK. Following a tremendous response by members of the public, a second print run is already on sale.
Inspired by, and initially on sale during, the Theatre Royal Bath’s world premiere run of the brand new stage musical, Mrs Henderson Presents (which itself featured nudity), the calendar sold out its first print run within 3 weeks and has already raised over £1,000.
Photographed at Bath’s historic theatre by Chris Lucas, the calendar, entitled ‘Now Showing’, features 12 different photographs picturing 31 members of the Front of House team performing everyday tasks at the Theatre Royal, from selling programmes to serving drinks – all with a cheeky twist – they are all naked with only props to hide their modesty. Local actor and Bath pantomime star Jon Monie makes a fully-clothed, cameo appearance in one of the calendar’s comical photographs. In a nod to a Theatre legend, it is also possible to spot a tortoiseshell butterfly concealed in every picture.
Jack Opie from theTheatre Royal Fundraisers said, “I am proud that we have so many staff who are willing to raise money for two such great causes.”
Cancer Research UK leads pioneering research into many types of cancer. Their work, which is entirely funded by donations from the public, has saved millions of lives nationwide and across the world. The Theatre Royal Bath’s Front of House team specifically chose to raise funds for Cancer Research UK after the passing of Sue Martin, a much-loved friend and colleague. Sue worked as a member of Front of House staff at the Theatre Royal for 26 years.
The Theatre Royal Bath Fundraisers is a long-standing charity which raises money throughout the year to help preserve the future of Bath’s 210-year-old theatre.
Darren Portch, Front of House Manager at the Theatre Royal, said, “We have received wonderfully supportive comments from Theatre Royal patrons and we are overwhelmed by sales so far. Anyone who buys ‘Now Showing’ will see a new side of our Front of House staff, one you have never experienced before, but most importantly you will be helping us to raise valuable funds for two fantastic charities”.
Three local Bath-businesses who have backed the calendar by sponsoring ‘Now Showing’ are Mandalyns, Owen Morgan Massage Therapy and Reboot Computer Services.
Priced at £5, all proceeds from the sale of the calendar will be donated to Theatre Royal Fundraisers and Cancer Research UK.
Theatre Royal Bath Ushers Now Showing 2016 Calendar is on sale now at 5 different outlets in the city: Theatre Royal Bath’s Box Office, Woods Stationers, Bath Box Office, Mandalyns Bath and the Cancer Research UK Westgate Street shop.
