Mouth Open, Story Jump Out featuring Polarbear visits the egg theatre at the Theatre Royal Bath for four performances on Friday 28th and Saturday 29th March, ideal for children aged 8 to 10 years. Earlier in the week, the show will be touring to local schools.
In an absorbing, interactive performance, spoken word artist Polarbear explores the craft of storytelling, truth, invention and how language is used to shape meaning.
Polarbear makes things up; stories, jokes, adventures – a master maker-upper. But where did it all begin? Mouth Open, Story Jump Out is about the moment that started it all, and how one little decision set off a chain reaction that changed his life forever. International assassins, secret codes, dog-eating boa-constrictors and much more fill the hole left when a father disappears and a boy discovers a talent for telling tales.
Mouth Open, Story Jump Out is a Battersea Arts Centre production, conceived and created by Polarbear (aka Steven Camden), one of the UK’s leading spoken word artists. This is Polarbear’s fourth theatre show and his first piece for young people. His previous shows, If I cover my nose you can’t see me, co-commissioned by Arts Council England and Birmingham REP, closed the London Literature Festival in 2008. His second show, RETURN, commissioned by Battersea Arts Centre and the Lit Up Consortium, was produced by The Albany and mac; and his third show Old Me, was produced by and premiered at London’s Roundhouse in Autumn 2011. Polarbear is also an experienced workshop leader, focusing on writing for performance. He works with young people ranging from primary school pupils to degree level students, as well as with performers who are interested in developing character-based performance pieces.
