Pound Arts are getting 2016 off to a cracking start with its new season. Insightful comedy, edge-of-your-seat theatre and uplifting music are just some of the highlights of the new year.

The arts hub for North Wilts will be welcoming household names such as broadcaster, Jonathan Dimbleby and German comedian, Henning Wehn.

Jonathan Dimbleby will be talking about his latest book, The Battle of the Atlantic, on Thursday 24 March. Henning Wehn returns to The Pound for a second time with a three day stint in March that has already sold out. But don’t fear, as more fantastic comedy acts include rising star of British comedy, Lou Sanders (Saturday 23 January) and the three-man show and stars of BBC 3’s Badults, Pappy’s Live at The Pound (5 February).

Other returnees include the well-loved Gordie MacKeeman and his Rhythm Boys, bringing their energetic, old time roots music on Saturday 27 February.

There’s plenty more musical acts to dance the January blues away, including Glastonbury performers Tobias Ben Jacob and Lukas Drinkwater later this month, folk acts Luke Daniels in February and Scottish five-piece Breabach in March. The Pound Cafe Bar is also hosting its regular Free Friday slots of live music.

For classical music lovers, The Pound’s monthly Lunchtime Recitals feature pianists Andrew McCormack (January), An-Ting Chan (March) and the chamber group Duo Asteria in April.

The Pound will also be showcasing dance this season. Cscape Dance will be performing Taste on Saturday 20 February with the chance for aspiring young dancers to take part in a workshop beforehand.

This season, The Pound will be hosting a range of plays based on historic events, from a recently discovered World War One heroine in Over the Top, (Friday 4 March), to a multimedia examination of the 1980s’ Battle of The Beanfield. However, Gonzo Moose’s Great Scott! in April, adds a surreal touch involving aliens and the legendary polar explorer.

Pound Arts is also delighted to be taking part in Theatre Fest West 2016. Now in its fifth year, Salisbury Playhouse’s annual festival celebrates theatre made in the South West. Performances at The Pound include Nel (Saturday 2 April) which combines Foley artistry, live music and movement; and Theatre Undertow’s performance In the Bellows (on the morning of Saturday 2 April) designed while in residency at The Pound and aimed at small-sized audiences of all ages.

Russ Tunney, director of Pound Arts, says “we are delighted to be presenting such a high quality line up this season. We are on course to break our box office records this year and it is terrific to see so many people enjoying  world class events in Corsham. Get a ticket now while they are still available – we’d love to see you”

The Pound continues screening live theatre broadcasts, beaming from London direct to Corsham. This season’s highlights include Les Liaisons Dangereuses in January, and As You Like It in February. Check the website, poundarts.org.uk, for more performances during the season.

Exhibitions this season include a showcase of Chris Dunn’s work to mark the end of his three year residency at The Pound and the 2016 Cloth Road Artists Trail.

There are plenty of opportunities to take part at The Pound for all ages. This season includes CreateNoW,The Pound’s art cub for 6-11 year olds, Tiddler Troupes, fun and games for toddlers and workshops for all school ages throughout Half Term and Easter. Adult workshops are proving very popular already this year with Lino Printing, Stain Glass and Ceramics for Beginners now sold out.

There’s plenty to delve into this new year at Pound Arts. Get your tickets booked now for events promising to dissolve those January blues. Box office: 01249 701628 / www.poundarts.org.uk
