Could your son or daughter be the next Tom Morris or would they prefer to take centre stage like Daniel Radcliffe? To celebrate 15 years of youth theatre, Pound Arts launches a new ‘Young Company’ for ages 17-25, giving young directors, actors, writers and stage designers a chance to make all aspects of theatre.

From September 2013, the youth theatre will be following a new direction and led by two new youth theatre directors, Carl Woodward and Paula Willcox.

Paula studied and worked in theatre and in drama education in London for 18 years. Two years ago, she relocated to the village of Colerne and became a freelance drama practitioner and teacher.

“This is an exciting time for young theatre makers in our area. We are privileged to be building on the solid tradition of work done over 15 years of ActNoW at Pound Arts,” said Paula.

Carl has been working with a variety of arts organisations across the South West over the past few years including Theatre Royal Winchester, Dorset School of Acting and Forest Forge Theatre Company. He is also an Associate Participation Practitioner at Salisbury Playhouse with an established history of working with youth theatres and education departments.

“We will explore all aspects of making theatre. We operate an ensemble approach to creating, participating and learning through practical activities. We support creativity by providing engaging participatory events and giving young people the opportunity to express themselves, learn new skills and enhance their personal development,” said Carl.

“There are so many opportunities open to us in this new chapter for ActNoW. We will seek to work with current members and reach out to new; empower young people; forge creative partnerships with other regional and national youth theatres, schools and colleges,” added Paula.

The new ‘Young Company’ group will be meeting on Wednesday nights at 7.15pm – 9.15pm to explore creative and innovative theatre practice.

“If you are interested in making theatre, come along to a meet and greet event at The Pound on Saturday 14 September at 12pm,” said Carl.
