Every now and again you get the pleasure to witness a theatrical tour-de-force and today I had that pleasure of seeing Gritty Theatre’s production of Tom Well’s coming of age masterpiece.

Nick, played with effortless mastery by Dominic Thompson, is a teenager riddled with angst and sexual tension, add into the mix his gothic lifestyle choice and emerging sexuality and we have a very very funny play that has some beautifully subtle undertones and nuances.

The set is just a single winged arm chair that Thompson uses to great effect, shifting it around the stage becoming a bus stop, an old peoples home and puppet theatre amongst other things.

Excellent comic timing combined with the rollercoaster of ‘all the feelings’ made for a joyful celebration of life, death and theatre. GO SEE IT!!!
