Theatre Royal Bath
This is a glorious family treat, full of colour and fun it is headed up by a strong cast who hurtle from the opening to the finale with unfailing energy and resolve. It is an excellent production and possibly one of the very best in recent years.
Safe in the hands of the wonderfully silly Jon Monie (Wishee Washee) who has firmly established himself as one of the most accomplished comedians on the panto circuit the jokes are fast, furious and often naughty keeping all ages totally engaged. Alongside the excellent Nick Wilton (Widow Twankey) the show has a winning recipe from the outset. Add into this the antics of Tom Whalley (PC Pong) and a well crafted “slop scene” the traditional elements are all intact.
Bill Ward (Abanazar) is a fiercely popular baddie whilst Loula Geater( Slave of the Ring) leads some powerful vocals through the big numbers.
There is much to like with Mark Rhodes (Aladdin) and Gemma Naylor (Princess Jasmine) who head up the romantic interest but it is clearly a company show. The supporting dancers and the youngest members of the cast provide colourful transitions and impressive routines to keep the show rolling along.
This is an absolute hit and should not be missed; it is true family entertainment and a welcome sparkling addition to any Christmas celebration.
