Fanstatic Mr Fox adapted for the stage by Sam Holcroft
This is the perfect half term treat for the family. A brilliantly witty, musical romp through Roald Dahl’s story of the fox who outwits the farmers and in the process learns a little humility and understands the nature of friendship.
This musical version adapted for the stage by Sam Holcroft savours the themes of the original text, creates wildly entertaining characters and is buoyed along by an outstanding score from Arthur Darvill played by the fully integrated onstage band. The lyrics by Darren Clark, Arthur Darvill, Sam Holcroft and Al Muriel are stylish and full of wit; the humour works on many levels and is definitely not just for the children.
The excellent design from Tom Scutt ensures the energy never falters allowing seamless scene changes whilst the endless multi role playing and physical theatre creates wonderful pictures to remember.
The excellent cast, lead by Greg Barnett (Mr. Fox) work tirelessly through the piece; Richard Bean (Rat) is an outstanding cameo but to single people out in this company production feels unfair. The farmers are suitably greedy and obnoxious whilst the individual foibles of the other animals create some lovely moments.
This is an absolute hit and well worth a visit, a gem of a production that will no doubt become a family classic in years to come so grab a ticket whilst it’s fresh and sassy.
Without question a couple of hours with Mr. Fox is a perfect excuse to escape from the outside world.
