Jet Set Go! By Jake Brunger & Pippa ClearyNot Another Theatre Company

The Mission Theatre, Bath

As if Bath was not already awash with excellent small scale theatre groups suddenly, along comes a new one. Not Another Theatre Company has been brought together by Mark Sellick with a company handpicked from other regional groups ensuring a well cast and confident premiere production.

Jet Set Go! Is a musical based around the trials, tribulations and sexual frustrations of a long haul cabin crew as they make a transatlantic trip. The musical runs at a mere 2 hours and not in real time, however, the plot is really more of a thread to enable a string of songs to sit together. Characters are sketchy and the pace is fairly frantic. The important element is that this piece was written for and is essentially a great deal of fun.

The cast are charged with energy, the vocals are excellent throughout and the choreography in the small space well imagined by Rachel Bosomworth. The band is also under good control by MD Philip Styles

The simple set design is complimented well by the branded costumes (Anita Unwin) which gives the production a good polish. The cast work well as a company, special mention must go to Mark Sellick reading in for an indisposed Matt Knowles as the gay, lonely Ryan whose work in First Class comes with certain benefits. Other moments of glory belong to Tom Corbishley “If I could find a boy” and Rachel Bosomworth who steals the show away as Hayley with “A Simple Valley Song.”

This is a lovely fix of humour and escapism, not for the easily offended and as suggested not for the under 16. Tickets however are in very short supply.

No doubt this is just the first of many productions from this vibrant team. There’s always room for more.
