JOHN-LUKE ROBERTS: ALL I WANNA DO IS FX: GUNSHOTS WITH A FX: GUN RELOADING AND A FX: CASH REGISTER AND TAKE YOUR MONEY!
BATH BREWHOUSE

This show, surprisingly, has no gunshots, guns reloading, or cash registers, FX or otherwise. In fact, it’s not a show; it’s some ideas for a proposed new show which may or may not have some sort of shape in the future. This is a necessarily hit-and-miss performance; and it is a bit disingenuous of him to have omitted the three words ‘work in progress’ from its misleading title.

Having said that, there are quite a few hits among the misses; though not all of it is new. Weirdly hilarious as it is, he’s done his foretelling people how they will die routine before; he showcased it when he was here two years ago with an actual put-together show. But he’s nevertheless entertaining in an extremely off-beat way, and his ability to get an audience to join in with idiotic routines he devises for it meets no resistance. And he does an accurate Jon Ronson impression, which impressed this critic – even though most of his audience doesn’t know who Jon Ronson is. It’s to be hoped he pulls a proper show together out of this shambles. He can do it, for certain.
