The Addams Family
Book by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice
Music and Lyrics by Andrew Lipa
The Addams Family has had many incarnations from cartoons, TV series and highly successful film representations of this crazy kooky family. Here we have the UK premiere of a sassy and witty new musical A heart-warming story of love, family and friendship – alongside a cracking original score and gloriously witty lyrics.
The popular characters are all intact and here we meet Wednesday Addams, the ultimate princess of darkness, all grown up and madly in a love a secret that only her father Gomez knows. The two families are due to meet and this of course cannot possibly go to plan.
The cast are first rate Carrie Hope Fletcher (Wednesday) commands the stage and her stunning vocals secure her place as one of the UK’s leading ladies. Cameron Blakely (Gomez) and Samantha Womack (Morticia) are great fun as the quirky parents, creating a great balance with Charlotte Page (Alice,) Dale Rapley (Mal) and Oliver Ormson (Lucas) the visiting Beineke family from Ohio.
The orchestra under the direction of Richard Beadle is outstanding whilst Matthew White (Director) has ensured every moment of the show counts. The true star of the show is the extraordinary design from Deigo Pitarch. The house lives and breathes with a magical lighting design from Ben Cracknell. The world of the Addams family is a glorious steampunk, gothic festival which is hugely inviting. The concept of the vision is exquisite and the detail even in the choreography (Alistair David) ensures that this is one of the most visually stunning musical productions to have visited Bath in a long while and is most definitely worth a trip to the dark side.
