Multi prize-winning pianist ALEXANDRA DARIESCU is set to join BATH PHILHARMONIA, one of the leading professional orchestras in the South West, for a concert performance at the Theatre Royal Bath conducted by Jason Thornton on Sunday 14th April at 3pm.
The afternoon concert will feature a programme of popular classics including Fingal’s Cave Overture by Felix Mendelssohn; Piano Concert No. 25 in C Major, K. 503 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart; and Symphony No. 4 in B-flat Major, Op. 60 by Ludwig van Beethoven.
Featured as BBC Music Magazine’s Rising Star in June 2011, Alexandra Dariescu is hugely popular with audiences. As a concerto soloist she has appeared with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, BBC Symphony Orchestra, Northern Chamber Orchestra, St. Paul’s Orchestra and European Union Chamber Orchestra, at venues including the Barbican and the South Bank Centre. She has given recitals at many major venues and festivals throughout Europe and further afield, including the Wigmore Hall, Bridgewater Hall, Mozarteum Buenos Aires, the Gstaad, Bath International Music Festival, City of London Festival and the Cheltenham Festival – which was broadcast live on BBC Radio 3. In 2012, Alexandra performed at the Weill Recital Hall in New York’s Carnegie Hall.
Born in Romania, Alexandra Dariescu studied in both Romania and the UK. She graduated from both the Royal Northern College of Music and the Guildhall School of Music & Drama with distinction and won all the major prizes and awards including the Gold Medal, the Chopin Prize, the Piano Fellowship for 2010/2011, and the Peter Donohoe Prize.
Alexandra’s UK debut at the Bridgewater Hall in 2006 with the Royal Northern College of Music Chamber Orchestra was broadcast live on BBC Radio 3. She has also appeared on BBC Radio 4 and Classic FM. In 2011 Alexandra released her first CD. Later this year, she will perform at the Royal Albert Hall with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
Bath Philharmonia (Bath Phil) is one of the two leading professional orchestras in the South-West. Its players are some of the finest and most experienced orchestral musicians in Britain. Annually, the orchestra gives 25 to 30 performances, with a roster of international soloists at a range of prestigious venues. This concert is the first of two performances by Bath Phil at the Theatre Royal; the orchestra returns on Sunday 5th May to perform with pianist Ashley Wass.
