“Theatrical brilliance”- Sunday Times

Celebrating the 20th anniversary of its UK debut, SLAVA’S SNOWSHOW has captivated audiences across the globe, melting hearts and transforming sensible adults into awestruck children. A beautifully crafted combination of theatrical clowning and stunning spectacle, SLAVA’S SNOWSHOW is performed by a world-renowned company of clowns led by Slava Polunin, the Artistic Director of the St. Petersburg Circus.

Slava 2“Simply thrilling…an unforgettable comedy masterpiece” – The Independent

SLAVA’S SNOWSHOW combines the unbridled silliness of slapstick with visual extravagance and beauty, all of which has established Slava as a creative genius of international acclaim.  Influenced by artists such as Chaplin and Marcel Marceau, Slava and his company have taken clowning out of the world of circus, and brought it to theatre lovers and families worldwide.

Slava creates a joyous dream-like world, where one astonishing image melts into the next. Unlike anything you’ve seen before, audiences step into a world where a web of cotton envelopes the auditorium, and a love letter turns into snowflakes, the flakes turn into a blizzard, and a raging, whirling, heart-stopping snowstorm appears before your eyes.

“Utterly breathtaking, the stage effects are dazzling” – Daily Mailslava

Slava Polunin was born in 1950 in a small village near Orel in Russia.  At the age of 17, he went to Leningrad with the intention of studying engineering but instead, he joined a mime studio and so began his long-term quest to reclaim and re-establish the art and craft of the true clown.

Slava and his theatre company Litsedei, founded in 1979, took clowning out of the circus onto the streets and from there into the major theatres of the world. In 1988, Slava brought Litsedei to England. His first three performances at the Hackney Empire were enough to establish his name. Following his London success, Slava toured North America with one of Cirque du Soleil’s most popular productions, Alegría, featuring excerpts from SNOWSHOW.

The acclaimed winner of the Time Out, Olivier and Drama Desk Awards for most unique theatrical experience, SLAVA’S SNOWSHOW had its UK premiere in 1994 at the Edinburgh

Festival. It has since toured nationwide, delighting audiences of all ages and winning an Olivier Award for Best Entertainment during its run at London’s Old Vic in 1998.

Now in its 20th anniversary year, SLAVA’S SNOWSHOW visited Bath for the first time 8 years ago.  The show’s popularity overseas has seen it performed in 30 countries to more than 3 million spectators, with over 4000 performances, in 120 cities, including New York, Los Angeles, Paris, Rome, Hong Kong, Rio de Janeiro and Moscow.
