Romeo and Juliet

Shakespeare in the Green Park

17th – 21st June, 2014, Green Park Station, BATH

‘For never was a story of more woe
Than this of Juliet and her Romeo’.

Love, death and 1980s clubland come to Bath’s Green Park this summer with a local theatre group’s interpretation of Romeo and Juliet.

Shakespeare in the Green Park have designed the classic love story to fit the urban environment of the former railway station. To reflect the play’s theme of troubled youth, local youth counselling charity Off the Record has been chosen as a charity partner.

Punk Montagues and New Romantic Capulets are sworn rivals, and their feud spills out onto the streets. Romeo, played by Ashley Shiers, and Juliet, played by Annayah Prosser, have barely met when they are torn apart by the conflict. Will the well-meaning help of their adult friends heal the rift, or lead to tragedy?

Shakespeare in the Park has a tradition of donating profits to local charities. This year’s choice, Off the Record, helps young people to cope with the same problems facing Romeo and Juliet: relationships, violence, anxiety and grief.
