Spring Awakening 1Unnerving, funny, dark and often censored or even banned….

Spring Awakening has fast become one of the most beloved and popular musicals this century. After exploding on to the stage in 1906, Spring Awakening retained its provocative power challenging audiences and perceptions of what it means to be an adult in a world of hushed secrets and stolen whispers.

The boys at Spareroom Theatre have crafted this turn of the century darkly tragic musical, utilising some of the area’s most talented performers.

Set in the sexually repressed Germany of 1891, where adult authority is never questioned, the powerfully emotional alt-rock music takes the story of sexual awakening, youth revolt and destructive power of influence into a new century.

Spring Awakening 2A searing commentary on the dangerous consequences of shielding children from the world, Spring Awakening is an exploration of youth where our intrepid young protagonists stumble passionately through adolescence – discovering their bodies, their minds and themselves.

Spareroom have assembled some of the south west’s most promising young talents including Maisie Carter who recently wowed audiences with her performance as Amber in hairspray at the Theatre Royal,  Bath.

Director James Moore said:

‘Our cast are simply outstanding, they have been juggling exams, work schedules and the majority of them have been going through the gruelling process of applying to drama schools. It is testament to their ability, that many have received recall auditions and even offers at the country’s top drama establishments.’

Spring Awakening 3Dixie Newman from Frome said:

‘It has been a real pleasure to work on this show, the storyline is often quite challenging, but we have a very mature and motivated cast who lend themselves beautifully to every role. It has been a very intense few months with exams looming and drama school auditions. I have been very fortunate to have been accepted into RADA, ALRA, Italia Conti and Central school for Speech and Drama, so can now sit back and enjoy the final few weeks. We have a tremendous show and I would certainly urge you to book fast as it is already booking up fast’

Spring Awakening 4This show is complex, dealing with morality and innocence and the power of adults over young minds. Join this talented company and cast as they present the Musical version of Frank Wedekind’s classic text ‘Spring Awakening’.

Spareroom Theatre is a small company formed by three exceptional practitioners who aim to produce diverse and exciting theatre. Their premier production; ‘Gutenberg! the Musical’ – received great critical acclaim when it was taken on tour around the South West last year.
