We are delighted to welcome Dave Wakeling to Komedia for the first time, performing with The Beat in this rare opportunity to see the original singer and front man live in the UK on Tuesday 4 October 2016.
Dave Wakeling is the singer, songwriter and guitarist behind the biggest 1980’s 2-Tone Band, The Beat. Wakeling is a consummate showman, touring the world with an all-star line-up and performing all the hits of The Beat, but rarely does he perform on UK soil.
In the late 1970s and early 1980s The Beat came to define the 2-Tone sound of the UK with hits including Tears of a Clown, Mirror in the Bathroom and Can’t Get used to losing you. Since their split, UK audiences have been entertained by The Beat featuring Rankin Roger, (an original band member) but rarely have they seen the original singer and voice of all of the bands original singles, Dave Wakeling.
In what seems like a rare occurrence in the music industry, there was no falling out after the band split, but two separate bands emerged from the embers of The Beat with Dave Wakleing performing in his new home of America as The English Beat and The Beat featuring Rankin Roger performing regularly in the UK. This is an extremely rare opportunity to see Dave Wakeling in the UK performing all the greatest hits of The Beat.
Sarah Harris, Komedia’s Venue Manager said “We are so excited about this show. We are all huge fans of The Beat here at Komedia and it will be wonderful to hear their original singer perform their hits right here in Bath”
