Curtain Up Theatre School has just completed their summer schools, the first for juniors from age 8-12 years and the second for 12 years plus. Unlike some other theatre schools in the area that run theatre summer courses Curtain Up spend the week working towards full scale musical theatre performances similar to those the school produces throughout the school year as they believe in providing a high quality value for money service.
Tristan Carter the school founder and artistic director said:
“Our intention is to inspire the next generation of professional performers with our shows and courses, especially in these days of shrinking curriculum’s and arts funding. So this year we took on a major challenge to create a production of Peter Pan for the junior summer school and a production of High School Musical 2 for the seniors complete with costumes, set, professional lighting and sound, many of these aspects other schools dispense with because of the time and cost involved however we feel that the final product should be as professional as possible.”
Add to this the fact that when the students arrive on the Monday morning they need to be cast, learn the full script, songs and dance routines in four days to give them the chance to have a full tech and dress rehearsal on the Friday before the performance at 5pm.
But it’s not all work, there is plenty of time for fun and laughter with old friends and new. Curtain Up’s reputation for producing quality shows saw the audience filled with many supporters not only with family and friends of the cast and the performances did not disappoint them, one audience member commented
’How you all pulled that together in a week baffles me……it was a great achievement for everyone, the foot sure choreography, excellent singing and sheer enjoyment of those taking part was an utter joy’
