The Freckles Effect is an exuberant family musical that ‘spreads infectious joy’ (Bath Chronicle) with an exceptional youth cast.

The cast includes past leads from Matilda, the 2015 Junior World Tap Dancing Champion and winner of the Musical Theatre 2015 Rose Bowl.

Set in 1930s South Devon, Freckles revolves around a hard-to-place foster child who challenges deep-rooted sensibilities. It features toe-tapping original songs and electric choreography (by the premier South West dance school), developed in masterclasses with the composer of Les Miserables. With songs shortlisted for the Stiles and Drewe Best Song from a New Musical 2015, Freckles is not to be missed!

This young company, aged 8 to 21, punch way above their weight with energetic performances, skilful inventive choreography and powerful ensemble work and they perform with zest and panache, quite a remarkable achievement.

There is so much to enjoy in this stylish musical from the vibrant score with catchy songs, rousing chorus numbers, ballads and splendid solo numbers to highly accomplished tap dancing.

It is not often that you find such an unexpected little gem at the Fringe, but this is a sure-fire hit that you simply must see.

Edinburgh Guide (Rating ****)

Freckles create the feel good effect. The kids, girls and boys have been brilliantly directed and some of the choreography is quite excellent. The music is really good and some of the songs are excellent… It’s an upbeat story with a happy ending and the audience can only be impressed with the talent on show. The production is well presented and you can only admire the work that must have gone on behind the scenes to achieve this standard.

There are 21 new songs, most of which are pretty good and wouldn’t be out of place in the West End.

The choreography was highly impressive… this is absolutely a feel-good musical…  If an all-singing, all-dancing show is what you want, then The Freckles Effect will not disappoint. A lively cast, a heart-warming story and a rousing score make this a well-done piece.
