As the schools go back, the egg theatre has just released its new-look Autumn brochure, packed with shows, events, workshops and opportunities for all ages from 6 months – 18 years. In addition to the egg’s ever- popular performances for children and their families, this season also includes children’s theatre from all over the world, two in-house Christmas productions and the Theatre Royal Bath’s highly acclaimed youth theatre becomes the TRB Theatre School.

On 17th October the egg (the Theatre Royal’s much acclaimed theatre for children, young people and their families) will be celebrating its tenth birthday. To mark the event, families and schools have been invited to apply for free tickets to attend TOMMY FOGGO SUPERHERO and join the festivities. This interactive musical adventure is brought to Bath by award-winning composer and writer Stephen Deazley and Martin Riley and international cellist, singer and actor Matthew Sharp. Also during the birthday weekend, Zest Theatre presents BOY MEETS GIRL, an outdoor fusion of dance, theatre and silent disco technology.

Following its premiere in the egg at Easter and a critically-acclaimed UK tour, LITTLE SURE SHOT returns to the egg for Christmas. This new play about the life of sharpshooter Annie Oakley, is filled with comedy, romance and live Country and Western music. Also over the festive period, SNOW MOUSE, Travelling Light’s enchanting Christmas production for early years will be playing in the egg’s top floor space, the Roper Room.

Other shows include FROGS AND SNAILS AND TEDDY BEAR TALES, to which children are invited to bring their favourite teddy to celebrate bear’s birthday; HURRICANE BOY, an imaginative tale of chaos and calm; ME AND MY CAT, an action-packed detective story which features the voice of Roger McGough; Cape Town’s award-winning Magnet Theatre presents the international hitTREE/BOOM/UMTHI, the story of a tree’s life throughout the seasons; BREAKING THE ICE has been inspired by the amazing YouTube video of the actual friendship between a husky and a polar bear; Spain’s El Patio Teatro presents BY HAND,  a touching and life-affirming story about love told with beautifully-modelled clay; THE TABLE OF DELIGHTS is a theatrical tasting for children prepared by award-winning chefs which is followed by post show talks, and OUR TEACHER’S A TROLL is a hilarious story by Dennis Kelly, who wrote Matilda the Musical.

For very young children, 16 SINGERS uses the voices of 16 singers and a delicately woven sculpture to capture the attention of babes (0-18 months) and UNDER FOOT is an exploration of different floor surfaces and unique soundscapes accompanied by a live musician.

The diverse range of activities previously known as YPT, Dinkies and egg Club have merged under the umbrella of TRB Theatre School. Students aged from 5-18 are invited to stage performances, learn new skills and take part in workshops. In November, the TRB Theatre School will perform Thornton Wilder’s American classic about small-town life, OUR TOWN.
