We’re delighted to announce that we have been awarded £121,988 from Arts Council England’s Small Capital Grants programme, towards the installation of a new seating system in the

Tobacco Factory Theatre.

We are extremely proud of how far the Tobacco Factory Theatre has come in the past few years and that it is now an essential part of the arts and culture landscape in Bristol and the South West. We run four creation, performance and development spaces, are establishing a rich and vibrant educational programme and have raised our annual audiences to 100,000, including 15,000 at workshops, classes, talks and other events.

We’re thrilled to receive this funding from Arts Council England, which is the first key step in raising the total of £270,000 which is required to design and install a brand new seating system, to be in place by the end of summer 2013.

The new seating system will enable us to sustain the excellence of our work through continuing to offer Bristol and the South West a diverse programme of touring work and in-house productions in a fit-for-purpose building, and one which offers our audiences a vastly enhanced viewing experience, with improved sightlines, increased capacity and above all, comfortable seats!

What next?

The ball is now rolling, but there’s still a lot of hard work to be done to reach the total sum needed to complete the seating project. With a fundraising target of £150,000, we will be asking audiences, business partners and visiting companies to demonstrate their support for the development of the theatre by donating to the appeal. The backing of both new and existing supporters will be crucial to this campaign and to working towards a better theatre going experience for all, and we’re looking forward to building those relationships throughout this campaign. Further details about the fundraising campaign will be announced shortly.

“We are absolutely ecstatic to hear that we have been granted funding towards a new seating system for the theatre. This project is essential to the future of Tobacco Factory Theatre and I’m so pleased to have Arts Council England’s support and validation as we look ahead to very exciting times.”
