Worklight Theatre’s award winning show Labels draws on writer and performer Joe Sellman-Leava’s experiences as a young man of mixed heritage growing up in rural Devon, to explore the broader issues of racism, immigration and displacement. Labels was inspired by a workshop led by Oscar-winning writer, actor and activist Emma Thompson, at Exeter University in 2009. Joe re-developed Labels for Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2015. Emma Thompson commented on a new draft of the script earlier this year: “What a terrific piece. I love it. Simple, powerful, important and funny.”  Labels is the Winner of a Scotsman Fringe First Award, and was shortlisted for the Amnesty International’s Freedom of Expression Award. The show visits the Ustinov Studio after an Australian tour and a London run. (Thursday 7th & Friday 8th January)

robeson- Ustinov Studio- Theatre BathThe following day, Tayo Aluko revives his performance as one of the twentieth century’s most impressive, charismatic and overlooked figures in a rollercoaster journey through African-American singer and actor Paul Robeson’s remarkable life. Featuring a breathtaking rendition of Ol’ Man River and other famous songs popularized by Robeson, Call Mr Robeson features much fiery oratory and a defiant testimony to the House Un-American Activities Committee.

Tayo Aluko’s powerful, compelling and multi-award-wining tour-de-force performance has played New York’s Carnegie Hall, London’s West End and returns to the Ustinov Studio following sell-out performances in 2012.
